If you are looking for a media player which starts-up very fast and can play almost all media types (mp4, avi etc) then "Media Player Classic" can be one of your viable choice. 

To get Media Player Classic either download the standalone version of Media Player Classic or Install either "Real Alternative" or "Star Codec". Both "Real Alternative" or "Star Codec" installs their version of Media Player Classic comes packaged with them.

Note: 

1. If you choose to install "Real Alternative" you will need to manually create a Shortcut for Media Player Classic in Start Menu. 

2. If you choose to install "StarCodec" then make sure you don't have any other Codec Package installed.

The other media player I will highly recommend is "Ace Media Player". This player is even better than Media Player Classic in certain aspects.

2. Ace Media Player is built using FFmpeg, so it supports most video/audio formats without installing any additional Codecs.
